Obskur is a grid-based typeface whose origins can be found in a German lettering and handwriting manual. In his book (published by Rudolph’sche Verlagsbuchhandlung 1940) Fred Lullack shows how various categories and font classifications can be drawn or applied using a grid system in the background. That is also the case with Obskur. Its lettershapes are based on using a hole-punch-tool. The design transports this brutality and roughness into the digital space, adding both lowercase letters and a work-ready character set.
