Ingerl Sytemschrift is a digital counterpart to Kurt Ingerl's analog work, which in turn quotes digital visualizations. The typeface is a bezier-redrawing of a poster lettering (or typographic system?) constructed by hand. Ingerl was an Austrian artist – mainly sculptor and he never owned a computer.
He designed his own algorithm, which was implemented on paper until 1974. Thus, Ingerl Systemschrift also follows a clear system, which is roughly simplified, based on yes and no. Surfaces and forms are either present or absent – in a strict grid of 90 degree angles (with some surprising exceptions in the diagonals). A member of the Wiener Künstlerhaus, Ingerl was vice president of the Gesellschaft bildender Künstler Österreichs from 1977 until the end of his life.
